5 Common Mistakes That Are Killing Your Succulents

Succulents are often sold as "easy" plants, but many beginners struggle to keep them alive. If your succulent is turning mushy or losing leaves, you might be making one of these common mistakes:

  1. Using the Wrong Soil: Succulents hate "wet feet." Always use a sandy, fast-draining cactus mix.

  2. Lack of Sunlight: These are desert plants! They need at least 6 hours of bright light to maintain their compact shape.

  3. Misting Them: Never mist succulents. Water the soil directly and avoid getting water on the leaves to prevent rot.

  4. Pots Without Holes: Drainage is mandatory. Without a hole in the bottom, water pools and kills the roots.

  5. Over-fertilizing: Succulents don't need much food. Only fertilize once or twice during the summer.
